As part of efforts to support low-income families affected by recent natural disasters, the Florida Department of Children and Families is offering Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP) benefits.
Eligible families in Sarasota, Polk, Pinellas, Pasco, Manatee, Hernando, and Charlotte counties can apply for D-SNAP, but the deadline is fast approaching. Here’s what you need to know to complete your application on time.
D-SNAP Phase 2 Deadline
For Phase 2 of D-SNAP, applications close on November 8, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. This program provides additional food assistance to households affected by natural disasters, covering unexpected needs that standard SNAP may not address.
Be sure to complete the online pre-registration promptly, as leaving it to the last minute could lead to delays.
Important Steps to Complete D-SNAP Registration
- Pre-Registration: Complete the online pre-registration by the November 8 deadline. This process ensures you’re in the system for further steps.
- Phone Interview Requirement: After pre-registering, all applicants must complete a phone interview with the D-SNAP Call Center.
Phone Interview Details for D-SNAP
Once pre-registration is complete, contact the D-SNAP Call Center at (888) 348-0408 to conduct your phone interview. Call center hours are 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET. Note that D-SNAP offices will be closed on Election Day, so plan accordingly to avoid missing the deadline.
To manage interview scheduling efficiently, the D-SNAP program has assigned specific call days based on applicants’ last names:
- Last names G-N: Call on Wednesday, November 6
- Last names O-Z: Call on Thursday, November 7
- Any last name: Call on Friday, November 8
Completing both the pre-registration and phone interview is crucial to ensure you receive the D-SNAP benefits. This program offers temporary financial relief for food purchases, providing essential support to families recovering from disaster impacts.
Make sure you complete all necessary steps before the November 8 deadline to secure your benefits.
