With November already underway, many Social Security beneficiaries are looking forward to their next monthly payment. The Social Security Administration (SSA) issues payments based on recipients’ birth dates and other criteria.
Here’s a guide to understanding the November 2024 payment schedule, upcoming double payments for some, and how to handle any payment issues.
November 2024 Payment Schedule
The SSA distributes monthly payments to eligible recipients on different dates depending on the recipient’s birth date, the type of benefit, and whether they began receiving benefits before or after May 1, 1997.
Here’s a breakdown of the November 2024 payment dates:
- SSI Recipients: SSI benefits, designated for low-income individuals with disabilities and older adults, are typically distributed on the 1st of each month. However, November’s SSI payment was already disbursed on November 1.
- Recipients Who Began Receiving Benefits Before May 1997: Payments are sent on the 1st of each month, so they would have received their November payment on November 1.
- Birth Date-Based Payments:
- 1st–10th of the Month: Payment will be deposited on November 13 (second Wednesday of November).
- 11th–20th of the Month: Payment will be deposited on November 20 (third Wednesday).
- 21st–31st of the Month: Payment will be deposited on November 27 (fourth Wednesday).
Double Payments in November for Some Recipients
SSI recipients may notice an extra payment in November. Because the first day of December 2024 falls on a Sunday, the SSA will issue December’s SSI payment on Friday, November 29.
This means SSI recipients will receive two payments in November: one on November 1 and another on November 29.
Looking Ahead: 2025 Social Security Payments
In 2025, Social Security benefits will increase by 2.5% due to the SSA’s cost-of-living adjustment (COLA). Although this increase is lower than recent years, it reflects a stabilizing trend after high inflation in 2023.
Recipients saw a 3.2% increase in 2024, following the notable 8.7% increase in 2023.
What to Do If Your Payment Is Missing
If your Social Security payment doesn’t arrive on the scheduled date, SSA recommends these steps:
- Check with Your Bank: Delays in posting may occasionally occur at your bank or financial institution, so this is a good first step.
- Contact SSA for Missing Payments:
- Call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778).
- You can also reach out to your local Social Security office for assistance if the issue persists.
Staying informed about payment dates and schedules is essential for managing finances effectively, particularly during the holiday season. This schedule ensures that Social Security benefits arrive on time, allowing recipients to plan accordingly.
